As per the new rules for indian passport nenewal, you are supposed to fill an online form which would prepare a PDF file with your entries , and then you have to take a printout and submit it at the cosulate.
But the problem is, there are many more questions in the PDF from which are not even mentioned in the online form.

My dilemma is,
What do I do with the entries in the PDF form (passport) that are NOT filled by the online form ? Am I supposed to fill them by pen or just leave them alone ?

I am just frustated now. I even offered to pay extra to speed it up but no use. I am only worried if dates retrogress half way through?

To my real question.. Can we just file on our own with out the lawyer? I would hate to loose this window just coz my laywer couldn't do it. Not sure how I would break that kinda news to my wife, "I know the dates were current for 10 days in July but our lawyer didn't have time so now you will have to stay at home for 1 more year".

Hi! You are not the only one, many people like us are in the same situation as yours. However, there is nothing you can do if the dates retrogress.
Lot of people are filing 485 on their own and you can do that too, I guess. There is a seperate thread for this, please refer to that thread.

abhijitp06-29 01:46 PMmy company lawyer responded to my similar question saying they too fear the mid month retrogression, and will try to file ASAP. However, the explanation offered in other posts in this thread (notably, logiclife and shantak) does sound compelling. as someone said, file asap if you can. if you cannot, do not worry, as 1. it won't help and in 2. my humble opinion, shutting the door for ALL within the first month of opening the door for ALL, will be a shame, and will set a very bad precedent, so most likely they will wait at least until end of July before the shut the doors.

kittu199104-08 03:24 PMI thought visa numbers are available equally per quarter and DOS is prevented from releasing numbers early. How can they say that all the visa numbers have been used (or will be used by April end)?

Q1: Oct-Dec
Q2: Jan-Mar
Q3: Apr-Jun
Q4: Jul-Sep

I think July visa bulletin would bring some good news when numbers for the last quarter along with the spill-over (if any), are released. If USICS is not as efficient we may even see some good advancement. Don't loose hope guys!!

dkshitij01-04 01:19 PMI am renewing my passport at Houston and sending it via mail. I was on F-1 originally and changed to H1-B last year. I do not have a H1-B stamp yet. What visa document or visa photocopies should I attach? Do they have to be notarized?
I have only have the new I-94 showing my H1-B status.

Another thing, my employer has the original approval notice I-797, I only have the I-94 part of it.
